India’s leading consumer products maker Dabur India Ltd today announced the successful completion of employment-guaranteed training of the first batch of rural youth under its ambitious community development initiative, ‘Swavalamban’. Twenty Seven young boys have completed the month-long training programme under this initiative and were today awarded the completion certificate and a job offer letter, offering all the 27 rural youth employment immediately after completing the course.

This mega initiative is aimed at improving the employability of local youth from villages by providing them free technical training and skill development opportunities.  The Project, being run in association with the Rural Development and Self-Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI), will offer training to rural youth on three key areas of Sales, Merchandising and Promotion. The youth will be offered guaranteed employment, post completing their training.

Speaking on the occasion, Dabur India Ltd Head-Global Human Capital and CSR Mr. A. Sudhakar said:  “At Dabur, we believe that businesses play a vital role in expanding the talent pipeline in our country. With the Swavalamban initiative, our goal is to strengthen the employability of people, particularly the rural youth. It gives me great pleasure to see this first batch successfully complete their training. I wish them all the success in their career.”

India today has a strong surplus in working population and a significant portion of this demographic dividend lies in rural areas, which will be one of the important growth engines in future. To leverage this advantage, it is imperative that companies should focus on skill building and vocational training to make the youth employable in the organized sector. “Towards this end, Dabur has initiated the Swavalamban programme that seeks to make the rural youth more employable by arming them with the requisite skill sets. The objective of this initiative is to identify the training needs of the rural youth, provide training through a well-planned and designed curriculum, engage youth in business process and contribute in Nation Building and Economic Development of the country,” Mr. Sudhakar added.

In addition to training in Sales (for Salesman/Selling skills), this programme will also offer courses in Merchandising (for Visibility of Product and POS) and Promoter (for Attending customer). The month-long course covers in-house coaching, field training and exams & extra-curricular activity.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhirendra Kumar Chowdhury, Director, RUDSETI-Ghaziabad said: “The course curriculum design for our trainees has always been a dynamic process with regular updates depending upon the socio-economic changes and business opportunities in the operational areas. Looking at the great demand for skilled personnel in the area of merchandizing, sales and trade promotion in the area a new course has been developed in association with Dabur India Ltd, wherein we expect to train unemployed and unskilled youth. We are very optmisitic that at the end of the intervention and after imbibing the requisite skills, these youth will be absorbed by the industry.”
