American Express appoints Manoj Adlakha as CEO, India Business

American Express has appointed Manoj Adlakha as Chief Executive Officer, American Express Banking Corp. (AEBC), India. In this role, Manoj will be responsible for running American Express’ proprietary Consumer Card and Prepaid businesses in India, as well as for providing leadership to the AEBC Country Executive Team. He will continue to report to Sanjay Rishi, President, American Express South Asia. Prior to this, Manoj led the American Express Corporate Business.

Speaking about the appointment, Sanjay Rishi said, “Manoj is an apt choice for this role given his diverse experience in the financial services space combined with knowledge of market dynamics. As CEO for the India business, he will be responsible for driving the growth, transformation, and profitability in this market. For American Express, India is a strategic growth market and we are confident of further buoyant growth under Manoj’s able leadership.”

A highly respected leader with over 24 years of experience, Manoj has spent over 20 years at American Express across key roles including: CFO; Officiating Country Manager; Consumer Card Head; and Vice President - Retail Financial Services and Consumer Cards. After a brief stint outside the organisation as entrepreneur and in the financial sector, Manoj returned to American Express India in 2009 as Vice President of the Global Corporate Payments business. Over the last five years at the helm of the Corporate Business, Manoj drove record growth and excellent momentum for the corporate cards business in India.

Manoj has in the past also worked with other players in the financial services industry including Visa International Singapore and YES Bank. Manoj is a Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi University.
