Ogilvy India's Abhijit Avasthi quits!

In what could be touted as the most unexpected and high profile exit in the creative business of advertising, Ogilvy India’s National Creative Director Abhijit Avasthi has called it quits!

Avasthi has confirmed to Adgully, however refrained form commenting on his next move. Highly placed sources inform that he may go on the sabbatical mode or take on to other interest areas. However, there is no confirmation on his next move as yet.

Avasthi is said to depart from the agency by end of next month, thus ending 15 years of stay at the agency.

Some of Avasthi’s noted works include: Cadbury’s ‘Kuch Meetha ho Jaye’ campaign, Fevicol’s bus campaign and Asian Paints ‘Wah Sunil babu…badhiya hain’ campaign among others.

Academically an engineer, Avasthi, after completing his studies in 1993, dd multiple odd jobs like working at textile mills, steel plant etc.

He began his career in advertising in 1997 at Enterprise Nexus (now Bates) as a trainee writer and after spending two years at the agency and becoming the senior writer there, he quit went on to join Ogilvy as Creative Supervisor.

In 2002 he was scaled up to become the Creative Director and was designated group Creative Director in 2005. He then became the Executive Creative Director - South Asia very soon. He has worked on brands like Perfetti, Cadbury, Asian Paints, Bajaj, Motorola, Coca Cola (Sprite and Limca) and Yahoo.
