Elon Musk-led X Corp leads online safety drive in India

"Today marks a pivotal step towards a safer digital landscape in India," declared Elon Musk, CEO of X Corp, as the microblogging platform announced a sweeping ban on over 212,000 accounts. Musk emphasized the platform's commitment to curbing online harm, particularly concerning child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.

Furthermore, in a bid to combat terrorism and uphold platform integrity, X Corp has also removed 1,235 accounts in India for promoting terrorist activities. This decisive action underscores the platform's commitment to ensuring user safety and security in the digital sphere.

In compliance with India's IT Rules, 2021, X Corp has released its monthly report, detailing its efforts to address user grievances and maintain a safe online environment. During the reporting period, the platform received 5,158 complaints from Indian users, demonstrating the effectiveness of its grievance redressal mechanisms.

Moreover, in response to 86 appeals regarding account suspensions, X Corp conducted thorough reviews, overturning 7 suspensions while upholding the rest. This transparent process reflects the platform's dedication to fair and accountable moderation practices.

Addressing user concerns remains a top priority for X Corp, which received 29 inquiries related to general account issues from Indian users during the reporting period. The platform continues to actively engage with its user base to address complaints and inquiries promptly.

The most common complaints from Indian users encompassed a range of issues, including ban evasion, hateful conduct, sensitive adult content, and abuse/harassment. X Corp is committed to tackling these issues head-on to foster a safer online community.

This recent crackdown builds upon previous efforts, with X Corp having banned 506,173 accounts in India between January 26 and February 25, 2024, and removing 1,982 accounts for promoting terrorism within the country during the same period. These actions underscore the platform's unwavering commitment to online safety and security.
