Mirum India Undergoes Leadership Transition

There's been a significant leadership transition at Mirum India, with Hareesh Tibrewala and Sanjay Mehta stepping down from their roles as Co-CEOs after nearly 15 years. Mihir Karkare, who co-founded Mirum with them in 2009, has been appointed as the Managing Director of the agency.
Tibrewala and Mehta will still be involved with the company, serving on the Mirum Board. Their transition seems to be part of a planned succession, with both expressing their continued commitment to the company and its success.
Tibrewala and Mehta, in their social media posts, express their commitment to the company's success while transitioning away from day-to-day responsibilities to focus on personal interests and mentoring opportunities. They also hint at potential future entrepreneurial ventures.
Tibrewala writes: “Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes’, it is time for change at Mirum India. After having led Mirum, now for about 15 years, I (and Sanjay Mehta) have stepped down from my role as CEO and handed the baton to our next gen leadership. Effective January 2024, my dear friend, colleague and partner Mihir Karkare has taken over as Managing Director of Mirum.
Having stepped out of day-to-day responsibilities, will also allow me time to focus on my bucket list (travel, reading, music, spiritualism…and just watching the grass grow); as also on mentoring some start-ups as well as mentoring boards of large companies (as an Independent Director)”.
Sanjay Mehta, while sharing this news, said: “Building an organisation is like a long relay race and not a quick sprint. And like all relay races, the baton must pass on to the next runner.” As a co-founder of the business, I will always see the company as my "baby" and the interests of the business, the team, the work that we deliver to our clients, will always remain important to me.
Which is why, we could not have had a better transition. Mihir has spent the last 15 years in the business and has eminent capabilities, across the entire spectrum of technical, management and leadership spaces.”
Mihir Karkare also acknowledging this transition, shares: “The day we started Social Wavelength back in 2009, seems both like it was just yesterday, and that it was a lifetime ago!
In my mind, the one thing that defines the last 15 years of this organisation is - constant evolution. From starting as a Social Media agency, building full service digital capabilities, getting acquired by WPP, morphing into Mirum, doing so much work with JWT / WT / VML, building our MarTech, Media, SMCC, Health businesses etc and so much more - the evolution has been ceaseless.

I view my taking on of this new role as something which carries forward this legacy of evolution. It’s not some big change, it’s just the next stage of that evolution! Both my partners, friends and mentors - will continue as advisors and board members. Building this business with them has been the privilege of a lifetime for me, and it is with immense gratitude to them that I’m taking on this role.”
The transition appears to be well-planned and orchestrated, with all parties involved expressing confidence in the future of Mirum India under Karkare's leadership while also remaining involved in advisory roles.
