In an exclusive conversation with Adgully, Rohit Raj, the visionary Founder and CEO of BB Ki Vines Productions, shares insights into his remarkable journey and the innovative strides made by his pioneering venture in the digital content landscape and much more…

Tell us about your venture BB Ki Vines Productions?

From a confident student at 16 to a groundbreaking entrepreneur at 29, my journey has redefined the digital content landscape. As the first independent talent manager for digital creator Bhuvan Bam, I helped propel BB Ki Vines to phenomenal success, becoming the first Indian channel to cross 10 million subscribers and amassing over 750 million collective views.

My vision extended beyond management, leading me to establish BBKiVines Productions at 25. We produced innovative shows like "Dhindora", "Taaza Khabar", and "Rafta Rafta", showcasing our commitment to pushing boundaries and creating high-quality entertainment. My work even touched internationally renowned formats like "Takeshi's Castle" on Amazon Prime.

Beyond success, I championed opportunities for creators, forging partnerships with giants like NBA, World Economic Forum, and Sprite. Collaborations with acclaimed filmmakers like BAFTA nominee Guneet Monga on "Plus Minus" further solidified my impact.

Embracing failure as a stepping stone, I transformed from an engineering aspirant to a young television show producer, shattering convention. My story stands as a testament to the power of self-discovery and courageous action in realising one's ikigai (life purpose).

Where do you see yourself and your company in five years’ time?

All of our plans are for the next six months. But since we're in production, we have to make plans for the entire year. We want to put four distinct types of productions on the floor in the upcoming year. There are, of course, Season 2s, and they are all incredibly unique. Our main objective is to produce and narrate more fascinating stories that evoke strong feelings in listeners and spark conversations. Our goal is to empower a large number of people through our tales, and my goal is to have one show debut on each OTT platform within a year.

What particular skill sets do you think you bring to the table to excel in your venture?

My work involves extensive communication, including reassuring clients, team members, and collaborators. I strive to be a reliable source of comfort and support for everyone involved in a project. Additionally, I focus on identifying the best value for each project, ensuring it benefits both my venture and our partners. While a lot of my work revolves around communication, I always aim to provide insightful contributions and ensure my words carry significance.

Icons in this field you look up to and how they have influenced you and your work?

"With the sheer number of people I follow, there's an overload of icons on my social media. Frankly, many are young and successful in my industry, which can be motivating. However, my true inspirations come from those who represent India globally like Guneet Monga, or consistently create and support talent like Karan Johar and Arundhati Kumar. Their dedication to storytelling and impact resonates deeply with me. Knowing them and seeing their journeys unfold makes me feel I've lived a fulfilling life, and hopefully, even a fraction of their achievements would be a testament to a life well-lived. They're not just icons; they're friends who inspire me tremendously."

What are the five most productive things that you do in your everyday routine?

My day starts with a productive bang: a 90-minute workout! I also prioritise a healthy diet for long-term fitness. Beyond personal well-being, I focus on professional growth by regularly soliciting creative ideas from my team, seeking inspiring stories to share with the world. On a more personal note, spending quality time with family and friends is crucial. Whether it's barbecues, good reads, or relaxing therapies, I strive for consistent connection, aiming for at least four to five days a week.

Do you think a career in this field is a viable one in the long term?

This field undoubtedly offers career prospects. However, long-term viability depends on your individual characteristics, drive, and resilience. Mumbai, the industry hub, can feel like a constant, competitive marathon. Success requires dedication, ethical practices, and adaptability. If you possess these qualities and choose the right niche, this industry can offer a fulfilling long-term career.

What does it take to succeed in a career?

Consistency is key in this career. Showing up every single day, without fail, is crucial for success. It's a collaborative effort, requiring faith and empowerment of everyone involved. On set, with hundreds of people depending on you, it takes perseverance, unwavering commitment, and a healthy dose of courage to navigate the challenges and achieve our goals.

What would be your advice to youngsters planning to enter this industry?

The dynamic nature of this industry can lead to a feeling of stagnation within a few years, even for those as young as 25. Daily routines may seem mundane, but long-term success requires dedication and time. While you can become "bankable" with experience, true superstardom often takes a decade or two. The constant change and pressure can be taxing, causing mental stress for those unable to keep up. If you find yourself stagnating or overwhelmed, it's important to recognize it and consider transitioning to a more suitable path.
